Thomas (Tom) Chebuhar, 84, of Rathbun, Iowa passed away on April 12th at Glen Oaks Alzheimer’s Care Center. Tom was born on October 9, 1939 to John and Susie Chebuhar in Centerville, IA.
After graduating from Centerville High School, he went on to Centerville Community College (Indian Hills) while working for Mitchell and Chebuhar Floor Covering. He furthered his education at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (Truman State University) in Kirksville, MO. with a degree in secondary education.
In 1963 he married Colene Boham. They had two daughters, Pamela and Paula. Tom had varied careers including high school history teacher, job analyst with the State of Iowa and insurance claims adjuster before ultimately owning and operating his own floor covering business alongside his wife for 30 years in the Des Moines area. Tom enjoyed bicycling, hunting, golfing, and hiking in Colorado.
After retiring in 2005 Tom and Colene returned to Rathbun where they enjoyed nature, hiking, reading, photography and volunteering for Drake Public Library.
Tom is survived by his wife Colene of 61 years, his brother Paul Chebuhar, daughters Pamela Chebuhar, Paula Chebuhar Larson (Kurt), grandson Alec Frazier, granddaughters Anne Larson Newmaster (Sam) and Sarah Larson Tomlinson (Robby), great grandson Robert Tomlinson and great granddaughter Ella Tomlinson.
