Theadore “Ted” Joseph Pfau was born October 6, 1964, to Joseph and Cecelia (Fisher) Pfau in Sidney, Montana. He was baptized in St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. He graduated in 1984 from Sidney High School.
Ted proudly served in the Air Force from 1986 to 1992. He was a law enforcement specialist, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, and Little Rock, Arkansas. He thoroughly enjoyed the dog handler aspect, knowing just when to slide a toe over the line of the dogs’ training, fully aware they would come after him. While living in Arkansas, he married Sandy Sinclair on February 1, 1990. Sandy passed away on November 10, 1991, from brittle diabetes.
Following Ted’s honorable discharge, he moved to Iowa with his brother Tim and wife Debbie, which gave him a chance to get his feet underneath him and start over as a civilian. On June 5, 1993, he married Stacy Wild in Adel, Iowa.
He had several jobs over the years, including animal well-being officer, carpenter, police officer, and truck driver. His last job was as an assemblyman for Roto-Rooter before his medical retirement in 2024.
He was a hard-working, loving family man. Outside of the Minnesota Vikings or Twins, the only sports he enjoyed watching were whatever his sons were involved in. When you met Ted, he was the man with jokes, not to say they were always funny, but that didn’t stop him from trying.
On Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines at 7:02 AM, Ted passed away while surrounded by family, prayer, and peace. Now unencumbered by a cane, walker, or oxygen, he can work on unfinished leather or wood working projects to his heart’s content.
He is survived by his loving wife Stacy; their sons Keegan (Hannah) Pfau of Des Moines, Lucas Pfau of Grimes; brothers Timothy (Debbie) Pfau of Chaska, MN, Tony (Shannon) Pfau of New London, MN, sister Carol Pfau of Bird Island, MN and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Thomas, and first wife.
An open house/visitation will be held Friday, April 25, at Reveal Community Church 205 NE Dartmoor Waukee, from 10-11, Celebration of Life 11-12. The interment will be at Iowa Veterans Cemetery at 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, at 12:30. There will be a light luncheon back at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
