Stephen Roy Torode, was a husband, brother, uncle, grandfather, friend and retired electrician who loved life, family, friends and the outdoors.
Steve died on July 6, 2023 at the age of 73 in a tragic mowing equipment accident doing what he would always describe as “Steve stuff”.
He was born on January 24, 1950 in Des Moines IA to Roy Torode and Marilynn Torode Armstrong (Crane) and was the oldest of their 5 children.
He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1968.
In 1986 Steve found his “Sunshine”, Chris Baker, at Dahl’s grocery store where he was working as an electrician for Baker Electric. Chris heard his contagious laugh and set out to find it. All who know them know their story is one of deep love, joy and happiness.
Steve worked as a union electrician, IBEW #347 for 38 years.
He was an avid pilot, gunsmith, archer, hunter and all around rascal. “Worker man Steve” loved a challenge and none was too big for him.
Steve was a meticulous and hard-working man with a great sense of humor. He was kind and filled with positive energy and a calm approach when teaching his brothers, co-workers, friends and especially his grandsons.
Steve also enjoyed bow hunting with his brothers, Mike and Greg and niece, Tatum and her husband Tyler.
Steve served in the Iowa National Guard as a MP from 1969 to 1975.
Steve is survived by his wife, Chris Baker, his sister, Chris Winter (Verne) his brothers Mike Torode (Tami Jo), Brian Torode (Pat), and Greg (Tami Sue) and stepfather Richard (Mike) Armstrong.
As well as his nieces, Crystal Torode, Faith Torode, Melissa Winter and Tatum Hageman (Tyler). His nephews, Mike Torode, Matthew Winter, Tom Torode and Dan Torode.
Stepdaughter Stacey Parker, grandsons Jacob and Adam Parker, stepson Rick Baker (Kenna) step grandsons Michael (Nicole) and Mason (Cara) great granddaughter Austin.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Acanthus Lodge, 4133 Urbandale Ave. Des Moines, IA.
