Russell Eugene "Rusty" Bair found his peace and passed away on Sunday, November 14th, 2021, at 53 years old. Russ was born in Decatur County on October 18th, 1968, to Sharon Christensen and Dennis Bair. Russ was sixteen years old when his father, Dennis, remarried Sue. Not only did he gain a stepmom, but also additional love and support in the years to come. Russ and his sister, Jennifer Jo, were raised in Des Moines where he eventually graduated from Lincoln High School, Class of 1987. Russ was proud of his title of big brother, and undeniably loved “Sissy.” Over the years, they remained close and active in each other’s lives.
In his early twenties, Russ met and married his former wife, Penny. The couple bought a home in Norwalk, and together had two children, Taylor, and Brandon. Early childhood memories with their dad consist of fishing boat adventures and skid loader birthday parties.
Russ followed in his father’s footsteps as a skilled carpenter and used his talents in both his career and personal life. His projects included house renovations, Sec Taylor Stadium (now known as Principal Park), and Mercy Hospital- just a few that made up a broad portfolio of accomplishments. In his best moments, Russ was described as intelligent, witty, and creative.
In later years, Russ was blessed with two granddaughters who were exceptionally adored, Aubrey and Aleah.
Russ’s purpose lives on through his present family and future generations:
Daughter, Taylor (Bair) Charles & husband Derek
Son, Brandon Bair
