Myrna Jerrine (Jacobsen) Hunt 9-17-1941 - 6-6-2024
Myrna Jerrine (Jacobsen) Hunt was born September 17, 1941, at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls, IA. to Anders Peter Jacobsen and Esther Jensine (Kristensen) Jacobsen, where she grew up and went to grammar school. Myrna loved her cat Frisky, hanging out with friends, all kinds of music, riding her bike and roller skating. She played the recorder & violin in 1st grade but ended up playing the bass fiddle in the school orchestra. In a group of five and appearing in Iowa Magazine and channel 5 in Ames IA. She went to Teachers Collage High School as a "Little Panther" where she played clarinet in marching band, sang in the choir and took piano lessons, graduating in 1959. The 50's in which she grew up in, was popular for classic older cars, continental kits on 57 Chevy's, drive in movies, penny loafers, roller rinks, saddle shoes and sock hops. Myrna drove a red 1959 Austin Heely Sprite, in which her younger brother Gary and friend took it joy riding. After returning home she noticed it wasn't parked, where she left it and was furious. She took pride in her Danish heritage, in which her parents were from Denmark and Holland. Her parents played at local church's, women's clubs and other events. Her father played the accordion, while her mother played guitar and mandolin. Myrna loved to watch her parents play and dress up in Danish costumes and enjoyed dancing, wonderful food and pastries.
Myrna also enjoyed visiting The Danish Immigrant Museum in Elk Horn, IA several times.
After graduation Myrna went onto Gates Business College in Waterloo, IA, where she earned her Business Administration Certificate. She worked mainly in insurance for Lutheran Mutual Insurance Co. in Cedar Falls, IA, then to Hanson & Hanson Insurance Co. in Waverley, IA. Myrna had decided to move to Des Moines IA, taking a job at Look Magazine. In which close friend of hers set her up on a blind date meeting Burdette Willard Hunt (later deceased December 7, 2013) in which she wed on May 3, 1964, delivering a first son Eric Willard Hunt (deceased at birth October 6, 1964). After the loss Myrna went back to work and had a daughter Jerrine Esther (Hunt) Sanford, born January 22, 1966. With a second son David Willard Hunt born April 9, 1967, later deceased on November 19, 1993.
Myrna loved being a full-time mother and wife and when the kids were both in school, she went back to work full-time. She went to work for The State of Iowa, The Internal Revenue Service and Federal Machine Cooperation. Landing her final job at the Polk County Assessor’s Office as supervisor of her department, where she worked for 20 years.
It was there she took a CPR class, and a woman collapsed in the lobby, and she started CPR and a nurse stopped to help. Both worked together until the EMT's arrived, but she did not survive. A second time an employee collapsed inside the front doors with an asthma attack and quit breathing. Myrna administered CPR and she survived and was awarded a special certificate by The Polk County Board Supervisor. Receiving a teddy bear and a special thank you from the employee’s life she saved, going on to retire at the age of 62.
After retirement Myrna loved dancing, especially with her husband Burt, they were great to watch. Myrna loved to listen to music, play darts, write poetry and spend time with her family. Myrna and Burt went out to the casino's, dart tournaments, out to eat, went to flea markets and took random road trips together. She also adored spending time with her two granddaughters Cierra and Shianne and five great grandchildren, Keaton, Cienna, Trapper, Jealynn and Adelynn. Myrna was a long-time member of the Runnells Christian Church, where she served on the board, taught nursery school, played the organ and piano, sang in the choir. She played for many years during church services, funerals and weddings. Myrna was honored with a plaque after retirement, after she could no longer play due to Parkinson's Disease.
Myrna didn't let it get her down and went to see Bob Seger's Farewell Concert Tour, with her daughter Jerrine in Des Moines, IA. Enjoying that old time Rock & Roll, while the music just soothed their souls. She also took a trip of a lifetime to Denmark, with her cousins Eileen and Marilyn. Seeing her family and bringing back wonderful memories & trinkets to share. Myrna was also an avid long-time Runnells resident since 1967 and was well loved and respected by many who knew her. Myrna also loved bird watching and sitting on the front porch with her black cat Stormy, who she loved dearly. Where just outside the front window she watched, the hummingbirds drink the sugar water from the feeder. As it was then her quiet, simple, happy place and enjoyed her rocking chair. She will be greatly missed in all our hearts but will never be forgotten in our memories. You’re already home dancing with dad, holding & meeting your first-born son Eric, for the first time and reuniting with your second son, David after all these years. Until we meet again "MOM" I love you with all my heart, as I know you’re smiling down from heaven and watching over all of us. "R.I.P. Our Sweet Sapphire Angel"
