Michael Bock

Michael Bock, 73, passed away on January 4, 2023. A celebration of life will be held for family and friends at The Irish 560 S. Prairie View Dr. West Des Moines, IA 50266 on Saturday February 4th at 3:00 pm.

Michael was born on February 9, 1949, to Harlan and LaVonne “Terry” (Miller) Bock in Clinton, Iowa. Mike attended St. Mary’s High School and Saint Ambrose University. While he may not have finished his early seminary career, he sure completed his mission. Mike found his way to his true gift and passion in radio and television. He began as a disc jockey at KSTT AM in Davenport, IA. His love for the oldies was shared with his children, whether they liked it or not! Each child has fond memories with their dad surrounding the classics which he loved. Mike continued his career in broadcasting, later shifting to television where he became the Corporate VP of Guy Gannett Communications TV Group. Mike was a natural and instinctive leader who truly loved his employees.

Perhaps one of Mike's greatest enjoyments in life was being surrounded by his dear friends watching the Iowa Hawkeyes play at Kinnick Stadium. Mike was a dedicated friend who came in at the last minute and provided comfort, assistance, and a great story when you needed it most.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Ryan Michael Bock.

Michael is survived by his four children Jason (Chandra Bock), Justin, Kaitlin (Michael Donahue), and Kristen, his sisters Deb (Tom Smith) and Cindy (Heck), as well as 9 grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will go to the Child Neurology Foundation, in support of Leigh’s Disease research, and the Lupus Foundation of America.
