Margaret Charlene Erickson of Ames, IA died peacefully at the age of 89 on May 29, 2022 comfortably in her home surrounded by family. Born February 15, 1933 in Kamrar, IA to Joe A. and Catherine (Gerdes) Middents. Most of her life she was raised on a farm near Kamrar, where she learned many lessons of life and the rewards for working hard. While attending high school in Kamrar she played basketball with a very talented team and developed her skills as a forward in 6 on 6 girls’ basketball. Her senior year, her family moved to Slater, IA where she attended high school and loved to continue to play basketball with an amazing team. Margaret Middents, “terror under the hoop”, was part of the Slater Girls Basketball team that won the 1950 GirlsState Basketball Tournament Championship.
She met the love of her life, Kenneth Emery Erickson, and they wed at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA on March 4,1951. They spent 41 loving years together before Kenneth’s passing in 1994. Out of their marriage was born 3 children, Ron (Cindy) Erickson of Huxley, Syd (Doug) Moore of Ames and Karen (Stan) Carroll of Colo. She was blessed with 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
She will always be remembered for the love she shared for her family and friends, her tender nature towards anyone and everyone, her strong will for what she believed in, her selflessness to care for others before herself, and of course her famous cinnamon rolls. A lover of all, she enjoyed all her time spent with her grand puppies, some waiting with waging tails to see her again. Daisy-Mae, a cava corgi, watched over her until the end.
For those who knew and loved her, we will honor her and live life well.
Margaret was proceeded in death by her husband, a great-grandson, her parents, and brothers Wendell Middents and Richard Middents.
Interment will be private at a later time.
