Kathy Elizabeth Guynn

Kathy was 68 years old, born on May 15, 1954, to Joe and Alyce Mulvaney.

She lived in San Luis Obispo, California before moving to Des Moines Iowa in 1961. She lost her dad when she was 9 years old, that was a huge loss for her that she never fully recovered from. She attended Hoover High school and transferred to Urbandale High School graduating in 1972. She married Mark Guynn in September of 1973, they had 5 children together.

Shelley (Ron Statler), Kelly Guynn, Brian Guynn, Carrie Guynn and Shannon Guynn (Kenny Randolph). Kathy and Mark divorced in 1990. She was in a relationship with Dennis Ahlberg and gave birth to her baby boy, Justin Ahlberg (Araceli Guerrero). To complete her family.

21 year age span between her 1st and last born child.

Kathy worked at Younkers Southridge for most of the 80’s, met alot of friends that stayed in her life through the years. Her kids loved to go eat at the Younkers tea room whenever they could and loved to visit the candy counter.. She worked at Pizza Hut on Army Post for most of the 90’s and had so many regulars that became friends, they would come in at lunch to eat weekly to see her through the years. Kathy had many talents: cooking, planting flowers, decorating, she had a fierce love for her loved ones and was a protector, she was an animal whisperer and I am sure she has room full of animals that she loved that are loving her right now, an avid thrift shopper and amazon shopper, we hope they have amazon delivery in heaven.

When she got sick the doctor had given her a few months to live in march, her main concern was taking care of herself without help and not leaving her home. She was able to leave this world with so much dignity, strength, grace and love, that is how she wanted to go. Her legacy was full of spice, sass, love, clumsiness, pride, strength, quick wit, bravery, determination, tenacity, stubbornness. Like many say, they broke the mold when she was born.

Her Kitties Jack and Jill were her babies she adopted from the ARL. She would have adopted 100 animals if it meant they would be loved and have a forever home.

Some of our moms favorites things in this world were her grandkids: Alec (Abby), Kaylee (Dylan), Spencer, Brittany, Jenna, Brooklyn, Kora, Blakely, Greyson. Step Grandchildren:

Kenny (Brooke), Makenna (John), Braxton, Kaleb, Arianna. Step great grandchildren: Briar and Kennedy. Goddaughter: Lisa Boley Givens.

Preceded in death by her dad Joe, Mom, daughter Carrie, her best friend Barb Clark Boley, brothers Mike and Joe.

Our family would like to thank the Israel family hospice for all of the support and love that our mom received the past few months of her life. With their help she was able to remain at home and transition peacefully with the love of her family and her kitty Jill.

Our mom loved animals more than anything. She would love to have donations sent to Animal Lifeline of Iowa to honor her life.

Kathy’s Celebration of Life will be scheduled for a later date.
