Joyce H Beaton, age 91 Urbandale Iowa
Joyce passed peacefully from this world at Ramsey Village in Des Moines IA on January 15, 2024, with her loving daughter/son-in-law and son by her side. Joyce was born to Bernice (Betty) and Arthur Hill in Springfield, Massachusetts. She attended Commerce High School and then went on to work at Mass Mutual Life Insurance as a legal secretary. She and her husband Arnold were longtime residents of Brimfield MA. After the passing of her husband, she moved in with her daughter of Urbandale Iowa
In addition to working at Mass Mutual she was also the secretary for many years at the First Congregational Church of Brimfield while raising her family. Even had a stint of working for Kelly Services. Later in life she began working at the Brimfield Public Library in the “Sherman Room” as their historian.
She was involved in many activities which included being a leader of Girls Scouts, Ladies Benevolent Society, Operation Friendship, Church Choir, coordinated many meals at church during the Flea Market, volunteered at the Brimfield Elementary School and an avid bird watcher, Red Sox fan, and reader. In her last years, she spent her leisure time watching endless reruns of Match Game, Password, Concentration, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
Joyce is survived by her children Kathryn (John) Niemann of Urbandale IA, Andrew aka Red (Renee) Beaton of Southbridge MA, 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Arnold Beaton of 60 years, parents Arthur and Bernice Hill, in-laws Walter and Ruth Beaton, sister Janice Webster, brother John Hill, and Sister-in-law Eleanor (Joseph) Calzarette.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ramsey Village for the wonderful care they gave Joyce for the past year.
A Memorial celebration of Joyce’s life will be held March 10, 2024, at the Hitchcock Academy of Brimfield. in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Brimfield Public Library 25 Main St. Brimfield MA 01010
