Greg Veach was born to William Veach and Janice Hakanson on June 18, 1968, in Des Moines, Iowa. He lost his battle with cancer on September 27th, 2022, with family at his side.
He grew up in the Saylorville community and graduated from Saydel High School in 1986. Greg worked at various restaurants during and following high school until his unfortunate motorcycle accident that resulted in traumatic brain injury in May of 1987. He was able to make a recovery and with some therapy, was walking, talking and back to his ornery self.
He worked as he was able and really enjoyed his time as a pizza delivery driver. His worktime was again cut short when in July of 2011 he underwent a double lung transplant at the University of Iowa Hospitals.
He didn’t let this setback keep him down and he continued to enjoy gatherings with his family and friends. He also never stopped cheering on those Iowa State Cyclones, Seattle Mariners and Dallas Cowboys. His life was definitely a rough, short one but he loved and was so loved by his family & friends.
Greg is survived by his stepdad Edward Hakanson; sister Tamee (Dave) Holzhauser; step-
siblings Paul (Mandy) Hakanson, Karen (Adam) Gibson, and Ann Hakanson; his uncle, cousins and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his beloved 4-legged companion Annie that he rescued. She brought so much joy to his life in these past few years. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
An informal gathering with refreshments will be held on Sunday, October 9th, 2022, from 11am to 1pm at the Des Moines Seventh-day Adventist Church, 2317 Watrous Ave, Des Moines, IA 50321.
