Gary Thompson, 80, of Kelley, Iowa passed away Monday March 4th, 2024 at his home. A celebration of life will be held on June 22, 2024 at the Kelley City Hall.
Gary Lee Thompson was born February 18th, 1944 in Boone, Iowa to Edna & Stanley Thompson. Gary met the love of his life, Barbara, while at the local skating rink in Ames. The couple were married June 21st, 1968 and from this union, three children were born: Cheryl, Connie and Brian.
Gary loved spending time with his family, bird watching, blue jays and cardinals were his favorite, and he loved being outside, especially mowing his lawn. Gary owned and operated G.L. Thompson Sodding from 1995-2010. Gary also worked at Clyde Black and Son for many years. Gary was a veteran serving in the Army in Vietnam.
Gary is survived by his children, Cheryl Metzger, Connie (Duane) Mathews and Brian Thompson (Susan); grandchildren, Nick Shuey(Carly), Ben Mathews(Mandy), Randy Mathews, Raquel Mathews, Ashley Metzger(Stephan), Jessica Metzger(Ryan), Alexis Staggs and Sarah Staggs; great-grandchildren, Elijah Shuey, Wesley Schroder, Nova Galvan, Finnley Glavan, Skye Boone, Grayson Mathews, and Jaxson Mathews; along with 4 sisters and 1 brother.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Stanley Thompson, love of his life Barbara Thompson, great-granddaughter Nia How, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
