Esther Mae Rogers, daughter of Lannie and Lois (Clark) Hircock, gained her heavenly wings on Friday, September 27 at the age of 99.
As a direct descendant of Caleb & Ruth Clark, early settlers in Madison County, Esther was born, raised, and lived most of her life in Winterset. It was a place that was always close to her heart and where she preferred to live in her final years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Norman Felton, two brothers: Carl and Roger Hircock, and two sons: Gary “Buck” Rogers and Kenny Felton.
Born just before the Great Depression and a young mother during World War II, Esther lived a venerable life. She wed Norman Felton in June 1942. They had two sons, Keith, and Kenny prior to Norman’s death on Iwo Jima. She was married to Lou Rogers from 1947 – 1962. They also had two sons, Gary “Buck” and Randy. Esther raised her four sons, Keith (Melody) Felton, Kenny (Sheryl) Felton, Gary (Jeannie) Rogers and Randy (Marci) Rogers in Winterset. She was blessed with eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She worked most of her adult life at Continental Western in Urbandale.
She was always happiest with friends and family by her side. Especially if they were playing board games or cards. She always had a smile on her face during these times, especially if she was winning. She loved hosting the family at her house for dinners and holidays, and especially loved playing with the grandchildren as they came along.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to commemorate her life.
