Doris B. (Lenz) Weaklend of West Des Moines, Iowa, being saved by the blood of Jesus Christ, spirited into His loving presence on Sunday, July 15, 2018 after a 12-year fight with stage four metastatic breast cancer (MBC). Doris was diagnosed with MBC in September 2006.
Doris was born in Burlington, Iowa on January 9, 1957 and moved to Des Moines, Iowa when she was 11. She graduated from Hoover High School in 1975. After high school, she worked at General United Insurance Company where she met Dennis. Doris married Dennis on August 8, 1980 and their union was blessed with one daughter, Christina.
Unbeknownst to many, Doris was a prayer warrior for hundreds. She had over 300 individuals and groups on her prayer list at the time of her death. Doris was a wonderful wife and mother who introduced her husband and daughter to the salvation of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
Doris is survived by husband Dennis Weaklend; daughter Christina Weaklend; sister Jackie Pelan; in-laws Irma Watkins, Larry (Becky) Weakland, Gary (Vickie) Weaklend; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Doris was preceded in death by her father Wayne Lenz and mother Helen (Bell) Lenz.
The family would like to thank her daily caregiving friends and the doctors and nurses at Katzmann Breast Center, Medical Oncology and Hematology Associates, Mercy Cancer Center – Radiation Oncology, Mercy Ambulatory Infusion Center, and the staff on Mercy Hospital 8 South. The family would also like to thank Kavanagh House for their care and support in Doris’ final hours.
Visitation, service and luncheon will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Westwood Baptist Church, 895 S. 60th, West Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be at 10:00am followed by the service at 11:00am, with luncheon immediately following.
Ashes to be scattered at a later date.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made in her name to Doris’ favorite organizations.
