Donald (Don) Everett Nelson, 85, of Grimes, Iowa passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022.
Don was born on August 13, 1937, in Wayne, Nebraska, son of the late Albert and Lula (Thompson) Nelson. He proudly served as a Wheel Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic in the United States Army from 1956-1958. On June 26, 1959, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marilyn Carstens in Wayne, Nebraska.
Don worked as a shop foreman at Lint Van Lines in Des Moines, Iowa and retired in 2002 after 27 years. Don loved to spend time with family and friends, fishing and hunting, exploring Branson, Missouri, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the local fairs and in their family garden.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife Marilyn Nelson of Grimes; two children, Jody (Chuck) White of Grimes, Scott (Kathy) Nelson of Altoona; three grandchildren, Kristine (Josh) McCann of Cedar Falls, Brandon (Ashley) Nelson of Mitchellville, and Claire White of Grimes; four great grandchildren Korbin and Kinley McCann and Charlotte and Chandler Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gordon Nelson and Dale Nelson.
Per Don’s wishes, his body has been cremated and a private inurnment will be held at Iowa Veterans Cemetery. The family will have a celebration of life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in his honor.
