Darrin Mark Hellmers, 57, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on February 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife, Stacey, and family. Darrin was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on November 5, 1967, to Corneil K. Hellmers and Kindra L. Hamad.
Darrin lived a life centered on his faith, working hard to keep God’s teachings a part of his daily life. A talented carpenter, he worked for Straight Up Framing from 2017 until his retirement in 2023. He took great pride in his craft and was known for his ability to build and create with his hands.
Darrin’s love for life extended beyond his work. He had a passion for fishing and enjoyed tinkering with a variety of hobbies. He was also a man of humor, with a quick wit and a talent for making people smile with his famous one-liners. Above all, Darrin was known for his generosity. He always put others first, offering help to anyone in need. Humble yet fiercely protective, he made sure to include everyone in his life, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Darrin is survived by his wife, Stacey Hellmers; daughters, Britni Hellmers, Tessa Hellmers, and Cassie Hellmers; stepson, Derek Wollesen; stepdaughter, Meredith Niven; stepmother, Marie Hellmers; siblings, Barb Bailey Hall, Jason Hellmers, and Mike Howe; grandchildren, Knolyn Stevens, Marcus Skinner, Avah Nowak, and Coral Wollesen; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Corneil Hellmers; mother, Kindra L. Ault; and brother, Daniel Mark Hellmers.
A celebration of Darrin’s life will be held on February 28, 2025, at the American Legion Post #274 Baldwin Patterson, located at 2211 E. 42nd St., Des Moines, Iowa 50317, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Darrin’s legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering faith will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be dearly missed.
