Carroll Wayne Henderson Sr. was born on September 26, 1947, to George A. Henderson and Shirley Marie (Merten) Henderson in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Lincoln high school.
He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Jane (Vaughn) Henderson on June 17, 1967, in Des Moines, Iowa. They were married for 55 years. He retired from Des Moines Public Schools as a head custodian 20 years ago.
Survivors include his spouse, Mary Henderson; children, Leana (Thomas) Fry, Carroll Jr. (Tonya) Henderson; grandchildren, Tyler Brooks, Tyler Starner Fry, Aaron (Makenzie) Gathercole, Tobie (Tyler Hall) Henderson, Alyssa Henderson, Jordan Fry; great-grandchildren, Hazel Gathercole, Elaina Gathercole, Lane Gathercole, Mia Gathercole, Lucas Henderson, Alex Henderson; siblings, Rita (Jody) (Donn) Scott, Wannette Gale, Terry (Nancy) Henderson, Sherry (Mike) Atkinson, Jamie (Dorothy) Henderson, Robin Henderson, Clara (Robert) Floyd Jr; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Heidi (John) Hagen.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2023.
