Carolyn Sue Hill, 82, of Johnston, Iowa, formerly of Springfield, Missouri, passed away from pancreatic cancer at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines on January 26, 2023, surrounded by her daughter and grandchildren. She led a full life and loved with her whole heart and soul with an independent, stubborn spirit that we will dearly miss.
Sue was born in Marshfield, Missouri to Carrie and Virgil Weeks on April 13, 1940. The youngest of 5 children, she grew up in Marshfield until age 15 when she moved to California.
She moved to Springfield in 1979 where she lived until she retired from St. John’s Hospital in 1996. She has one daughter, the light of her life, Donna (Mike) of Grimes, Iowa. From Donna, Sue was blessed with three grandchildren; Tara (Rod) Martin of Iowa City, Iowa; Kelli Kluss of Grimes, Iowa; and Ryan (Sarah) Kluss of Dallas Center, Iowa; and six great-grandchildren (Ashlynne, Jacob, Aaron, Zachary, Alexander, and Addison). Sue married the love of her life, Norman “Bud” Hill on July 28, 1984. In her lifetime, she was blessed with five stepchildren, fifteen grandchildren, a wealth of great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Sue is preceded in death by her mother and father, husband, sisters (Jean, Barbara, and Patsy), and stepson (John). Sue loved nothing more than family and friends, and friends that became family!
Sue will be laid to rest at Greenlawn North Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri at a future date yet to be determined. The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Unity Point Taylor House Hospice for the love and care they provided in her final days.
