Cameron J. Collins, Urbandale, IA, passed away unexpectedly on 2/24/2025 due to aggressive bile duct cancer and related health complications. Cameron was born on 12/13/1974 to Susan Collins Roberts and Kim Collins in Cedar Rapids, IA. Cameron graduated from Urbandale High School, Urbandale, IA, in 1994, and graduated from DeVry Institute of Technology, Kansas City, MO with a Bachelor of Science degree in Telecommunications Management. Cameron worked as the kitchen manager for RC’s Restaurant & Lounge in Kansas City, MO for over 20 years. RC's was a family-friendly restaurant known for its exceptional chicken, catering and special events. Cameron was known as Camdog of the kitchen, the go-to guy, could fix just about anything and was responsible for food and restaurant supply ordering plus coordinating catering and ticket time meal preparation. For the past seven years, Cameron worked in telecommunications in Des Moines, IA for Mediacom and TEKsystems.
Knowing that his cancer could not be cured gave Cameron the opportunity to spend time with close friends and family the last weeks of his life. Friends from all phases of his life, Joe, Jason, Jon, Derek, and Deke were able to reminisce about the fun they had experienced, sharing laughter and tears together. Cameron’s friends and family have described him as a kind and loving person, with a gentle soul. He had a love of motorcycles, darts & pool, and NASCAR racing, attending races at the Kansas City Speedway for over 20 years. He loved old rock and roll music from the 80s and the band Pink Floyd. Cameron had a special ability to relate to young children and pets. He was adored by his nieces and nephews. He was looking forward to meeting up with family members and some very cool dogs in heaven. We could not have asked for a better family member, and we will miss Cameron every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Cameron made a very special entrance and exit to life. He was born on his great grandfather’s birthday, which was Friday 12/13. This was made for a three-peat, grandfather, his dad Kim, and Cameron were all born on Friday the 13th. Cameron did not want to leave his mother Susan out of the fun, so at her request, he wished her happy birthday and went to heaven on her birthday, 2/24.
Cameron is survived by his father Kim Collins and mother and stepfather Susan and Ben Roberts and grandmother Nena McKinzie. He will be missed by his sister Regan (Jay) Simpson and nephew Hudson. Cameron was loved by aunts Lori (Mike) Farr and Sandra Carr, uncle Kirk (Lisa) McKinzie, cousins Kendi Collins, Bree Dahm, Michelle (Ivan) Aralica, Lisa (Greg) Harrison, and Matilda and Talullah McKinzie. He was a favorite uncle to Alexa Jones, Zach Gallatin, and Karma Collins.
